After the expandable sealing ring is properly fitted with its gland, carefully slide the sealing housing onto the stern shaft, simultaneously adjusting its horizontal and vertical alignment while tightening the base flange bolts. The minimum clearance between the inner diameter of each part of the stern shaft sealing device and the stern shaft is 8 mm. Once the housing is positioned, the circumferential clearance should remain essentially uniform, and the concentricity deviation relative to the stern shaft shall not exceed 0.10 mm.
After the stern shaft sealing device has been axially installed in position, install the spare seal ring and the main seal ring (note: before the stern shaft is fitted into the stern bearing, both seal rings, as well as the overhauled stationary ring, must be pre-mounted on the stern shaft). First, place the springs at the back of the rings, then firmly press the inner hub of the main seal ring so that, together with the spare seal ring, it is pushed into the sealing housing. During the insertion process, continuously check the H1 dimension.
The H1 values for various types of sealing devices must be clearly understood. The H1 values measured around the circumference should be kept as consistent as possible, and the maximum deviation shall not exceed 0.15 mm. Finally, install the split stationary ring and connect the air and seawater pipelines.
